It’s the middle of April, it’s absolutely frigid outside, and yet, I’m still craving a big old smoothie bowl! Call me crazy, but nothing is going to stand in the way of me and my smoothies!
If it’s cold where you are, I’m sure the last thing you want right now is a cold smoothie. In this weather, it makes more sense to have a big cup of hot cocoa, a cozy bowl of oatmeal, or a steaming bowl of chicken noodle soup, but nope, I’m just over here eating this green smoothie bowl!
Now it’s no secret that I am not a fan of winter, cold weather, or the snow, and I’d much rather be somewhere warm and sunny. And that is definitely the case on this cold, blizzard-y day. So I figured that if I can’t be in the tropical weather right now, why not bring the tropical to me? So that’s what I did – in the form of a smoothie bowl!
Not only does this smoothie bowl taste tropical and delicious and make you feel as if you’re sitting in paradise, but it’s also loaded with tons of nutrients! Many smoothies can be loaded with sugar and leave you feeling hungry 10 minutes later, but not this one!
So what makes this one different, you may ask? Well, it contains a balance of protein, fats, carbs, fiber, and micronutrients (like vitamins and minerals) to give your body all the fuel it needs. Plus, pouring it into a bowl and adding toppings requires you to chew, which sends a signal to your digestive system to start working. This helps your body recognize that it’s getting fuel (food) it needs, which, in turn, helps your body adequately process that fuel and keep you satisfied until your next meal.

Tropical Green Smoothie Bowl
Ingredients
- ½ frozen banana
- 1 cup frozen mango or pineapple or a blend
- ½ cup frozen zucchini
- ½ cup frozen cauliflower
- 1 TBSP nut butter
- 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
- ½ tsp. vanilla
- 1 TBSP ground flaxseed
- 1-2 large handfuls fresh spinach
- ¾ cup almond milk, coconut water, or liquid of choice
- Handful of ice if necessary
Instructions
- Add all the ingredients, except ice, to your blender.
- Blend until desired consistency is reached. You may need to add more liquid in order to reach desired consistency. Keep in mind that you want it to be thick enough to pour into a bowl, so only add the minimum amount of liquid needed to blend.
- If you add too much liquid, add a few ice cubes to thicken it up.
- Pour into a bowl and top with desired toppings: unsweetened shredded coconut flakes, chia seeds, granola, cacao nibs, fresh fruit, nuts, seeds, etc.
